Meet Awed Dog Co.
Like most trainers, I have been around dogs my entire life. I grew up on a cattle farm where we always had at least one dog - a herding breed that we taught basic obedience skills. After university, I spent several years training with police service dogs in tracking, item/drug searches, takedowns/apprehensions and public education. I was constantly in awe of these dogs, their skill and the relationship they had with their handlers.
My first dog as an adult was a German Shorthaired Pointer, with high energy and high anxiety. Unwittingly, I helped him develop separation anxiety and later, reactivity. After many failed attempts, I found the right trainer to teach me how to be what he needed. When I realized it had little to do with the dog, and I was the one that needed “fixing”, the dog trainer spark was ignited. Since then, I have adopted rescue dogs - the underdog that society has labeled unfairly, has suffered extreme instability, or has been completely let down by humans. Each dog has, and continues to teach me the lessons I've needed to coach them to (hopefully) their best life. Reece taught me how I needed to step up and be his life coach not just his best friend, Rocko taught me to slow down and that quality is better than quantity, Beckett teaches me to stop and enjoy life, he’s also amazing at reading other dog’s energy, and Eddy has taught me the most about how to read a dog, how to build a relationship, how it looks when they fully trust their human, and how structure and boundaries are both necessary, and healthy. My best days start with a hike in the hills with my two dogs!
Over the years I’ve accumulated the skills, knowledge and training necessary to train a variety of dogs with an ultimate goal to rehabilitate the toughest behavioral cases. I’ve successfully worked with my own dogs through separation anxiety, reactivity, fear, and a bite history.
Awed Dog Co. is a way to share the mistakes I’ve made, the lessons I’ve learned from them, and all the other knowledge I’ve accumulated in order to help your relationship with your dog thrive.
